• After a long rest, Swink, the literary magazine where I am a department editor, has returned to glorious life as an online publication. Lots of fine, fine work in our latest batch of stories, poems, and essays.

• I wrote the cover story on Renzo Piano's new California Academy of Sciences building for the September issue of Metropolis.

• "Anti-Aliasing," an essay by Brian Oliu that I edited for Swink, was chosen for Best Creative Nonfiction Volume 2 (W.W. Norton).

"The Stiff Jew," an essay by Michael Bahler that I edited for Swink, appears in Best of the Web 2008 (Dzanc Books).

• My book Crystal Cove Cottages is now in its fourth printing. Buy it from the Crystal Cove Alliance and 50 percent of proceeds will go toward renovating these historic cottages.
